Meet Your Meat

This week I spent my american environmental history class learning about the meat packing industry in america. We learned how it started, the conditions in the factories, and how those conditions affected the workers, animals & consumers.

After discussing FDA laws and how there is a lack of funding for the inspectors working for the FDA, I learned that many corners are cut by corporations because he laws stated by the FDA can not be enforced. Following this discussion, we watched a video of how animals have been treated, and how they continue to be treated, in the meat packing industry. The poor living conditions, the abuse, the abandonment, & the torture the animals endure for their entire lives, up until the slaughter house, is cruel, immoral, & just plain nauseating.

PLEASE watch this video, "Meet Your Meat", administer by PETA and narrated by Alec Baldwin to find out where your meat comes from when you buy it at a grocery store or go through the drive-thru line at any fast food restaurant. I am not trying to turn the world into vegetarians, merely trying to expose the meat packing corporations or what they really are. Everyone should know where their food comes from so each person can decide for themselves if that hamburger is really worth it.

Procrastination

Procrastination: to put off till another day or time; defer; delay.
e.g. to procrastinate until an opportunity is lost.

I am the queen of procrastination! When I read the example that dictionary.com gives for what procrastination means it really puts into perspective what exactly procrastination does. Procrastination is not just waiting until later and once the task is completed, there is no harm done. By putting off a task, you are missing out on countless opportunities that you may not realize you even had to begin with. Where would we be today if we always did what we need to accomplish the minute we should do it? Where would mankind and society be? Would we be more successful and advanced? How about each individual life change? Would I be closer to my dreams of performing and changing the world through music? Would I have a higher GPA?
After reading that one sentence I feel like my whole life i have been procrastinating to become all that I want and know I can be. Even right now I am procrastinating studying for a chemistry test.
I am going to make my first step to end procrastination in my life right now...

My First Blog

I have never had a blog before, so I thought I would give it a try. Since I am an English major, I think some consistant writing, that is not for professors to grade, would be a good idea.

Well, my spring break is officially over and I feel like it never even started! I am here at work for another 40 minutes before I go home and pump out some homework, since I havn't really started it yet. I think if I had a macbook i would be more productive, however, my fiance won't let me get one for another 5 months or so...it's a rough life I live!

On a more uplifting note, Carrie Underwood's concert in Rochester, NY is only 3 days away! I cannot wait to see what she will bring to the stage. She is a phenomenal singer and this will be her biggest tour yet. I am thinking she will pull out all the stops and I am very excited to be 6 rows from the stage on the floor! This will be the first time I have ever been on the floor for a concert and I am glad it will be for Carrie!

Well that is all for today, i guess. I will try to keep up with this and hopefully enjoy being a blogger! :)
